Summer's End
Summer —
Time stops here. We’re reminded to pause, to bask in the moment. The high noons and the lingering dusks. The skylines dancing between the haze of heatwaves. We unbury laughter lying dormant in our diaphragms, hug one another’s inner child, kiss our lovers a little deeper, and hold on to everything with a little less care. Summer is where we dazzle a little brighter in our auras. Summer reminds us of our limitlessness, that the summit and the valley are the same trek — we must take our time on the journey.
Lust finds us here. Memories, the great inspirations from a love that never was - just the taste of tinged skin that burns on contact. Ice melting down your spine, to keep the inferno from engulfing the roots round your neck. Blacker berries that invented sweet. Natural highs and night sweats - all apart of the allure.
Solace in sunflower fields, fireworks and fire dills, cotton tees, cotton candy and ferris wheels. Short shorts and even shorter tempers. Hot, saline. It’s all so magical, I get so attached to the notion that Summer should burn forever, like my love for you.
But like all good things, this affair must come to an end.
To a ‘forever’ on the edge with you.
